There are many ways for children to be cretive in kindergarten . That however, is only true if the kindergarten teacher is interested in fostering creativity. There are actually many teachers that are of the more traditional bent that still believe that children in kindergarten should be sitting at their desks all day working from workbooks. There are however, so many wonderful things that kids can do in kindergarten that will help them be creative. If it is done right, the creativity should spill over into other areas of their learning and continue through the elementary school years.
In many kindergartens across the country the children are not expected yet to learn how to read or write so there is much more time for creativity than there usually once they reach elementary school. The best way for the teachers in kindergartens to foster creativity is by giving them creative arts and crafts. This is not a given . Even though most kindergartens do arts and crafts, many of them, believe it or not are not really creative. In the schools holidays are usually celebrated by making crafts for that holiday or special day. There is Halloween crafts, Valentine crafts for kindergarten, Easter crafts and crafts for every other holiday.
In many of the classrooms the teachers are so worried about pleasing the parents that they end up doing crafts for kids that are only there to please the parents. This means that they do copycat crafts that are copied from a model of an adults and every single child’s project looks the same. That is not creativity in the slightest. The best way to do crafts creatively is to just think up the idea, give the children the materials for the craft and then let them create it according to their level of creativity. This way the work they do will truly be theirs and will be a great creative endeavor.
