It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is an FX comedy that is on Thursdays at 10pm et/pt only on FX. It is a really funny show, but you need to be warned that a lot of the subject matter is most definitely for an adult audience. You can watch episodes of It’s Always Sunny free online.
You should also know that It’s Always Sunny deals with pretty much every taboo subject matter you can think of. Sunny stars Rob McElheney, Glenn Howerton, and Charlie Day, the three creators of the show. Danny DeVito also has a crucial role as the part owner of the bar in which the four main characters work, Paddy’s. Kaitlin Olson rounds out the cast, playing Sweet Dee, and can be just as obnoxious as any of the male characters on the show.
A lot of the humor stems from and around the bar they work at and hang out. The “gang” really care about no one other than themselves and run around town getting into all sorts of odd adventures. Consider it Seinfeld–on crack!
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has been on the air since 2005 and shows no signs of going anywhere else anytime soon. It is one of these shows that has a really strong cult following or die hard fans, but has also managed to cross over to more mainstream audiences even though it dabbles in some odd subject matter and may not be for everyone.
Charlie Day’s character particularly stands out. He is a barely literate, untalented fool and the gang treats him as such. He sniffs glue and eats cat food in one episode, and constantly drinks. Charlie, as his name is in the show, is a really unique and strange character.

Charlie Day could be out of his mind. Either that, or he’s a comic genius. I think it’s a thin line between the two…
Glenn Howerton plays Dennis Reynolds in Sunny. He’s known for his arrogance, his disregard for other people, and an overwhelming self absorption. The self-proclaimed “looks” of the operation, Dennis womanizes and drinks. Constantly.
Rob McElhenney plays Mac. He is usually Dennis’ partner in crime in whatever scheme has the gang’s attention in a particular episode. Mac is lazy, likes to drink, and is constantly thinking up ways that he can better his situation without doing any extra work.
Rob is also the creator of the series, which is pretty darn cool.
Kaitlin Olson plays Sweet Dee Reynolds, Dennis’ sister. She is the fourth member of the gang and is usually either in on the scheme or is the focus of some sort of plot by the other employees of Paddy’s Bar. She’s an aspiring actress who can’t quite let go of the dream.
Well, Sunny is definitely not the greatest show ever, but it’s darn hilarious–and can be quite disturbing at times.
Creator and star of the show, Rob McElhenney, says that they shoot the show with a low fidelity camera and not any makeup to show how ugly these characters really are. It’s interesting and seems to work.
Danny Devito is a great addition to the “Sunny” cast and can always be depended on for a bit of mishief and a laugh.
If you haven’t yet, you can watch It’s Always Sunny online at FX and hulu. It’s a highly enjoyable show, but it’s not for everyone. That’s for sure.
